Torre di Caprona, Vicopisano - Pisa in Toscana
Percorrendo la strada che correva tra le anse dell’Arno e la palude di Agnano si giungeva al castello di Caprona. Non è improbabile che l’imponente costruzione in blocchi squadrati di calcare del Monte Pisano, munita di due archi assai interrati che compaiono sotto gli intonaci della Villa Luperi, a sinistra della strada, altro non sia che la fortificazione che poteva impedire al nemico l’accesso verso Pisa.
La torre che attualmente si eleva sul colle è un falso ottocentesco sorto sulle fondamenta della precedente torre medievale, importante punto di avvistamento, ricezione e trasmissione di messaggi, di cui restano affioranti sul terreno i fondamenti. Le grandi cave che negli anni ’50 hanno aperto vaste ferite nei fianchi del Monte Pisano hanno inghiottito la fortificazione che dominava Caprona.
