Torre di San Jacopo, Vicopisano - Pisa in Toscana
In località San Jacopo si trova un maestoso edificio turriforme, costruito in verrucano. La torre ha pianta rettangolare, scarse aperture ed è frutto di tre fasi costruttive cronologicamente comprese fra il XII e il XIV secolo; quasi sicuramente aveva le consuete funzioni abitative e difensive.
L’analisi delle strutture murarie, eseguite nel corso di recenti lavori di restauro, ha permesso di ipotizzare che la torre fosse originariamente costruita in legno, almeno per quattro piani al di sopra dell’originario basamento in pietra verrucana. La struttura di legno risulta attualmente inglobata nel paramento murario in verrucano.
