Borgo di Forcoli, Palaia - Pisa in Toscana
Forcoli è la più importante frazione del comune ed è suddivisa in due borghi: uno, in alto, dominante e l’altro in pianura. La parte più antica, situata nel borgo più alto, mostra evidenti i resti di un castello, non privo di caratteri di maestosità.
Il vecchio accesso è testimoniato da quello che attualmente conduce alla villa. Sul lato occidentale della fattoria sono rilevabili tracce di antichi edifici e sul lato settentrionale una serie di archi si mostrano come sostegni di un antico camminamento di ronda interno alla cerchia muraria ormai scomparsa. L’abside della chiesa è ricavata in un robusto torrione che doveva costituire l’estremo baluardo nord-orientale del castello. Le case retrostanti alla villa evidenziano ancora oggi la planimetria dell’antico borgo-castello.
