Chiesa di Sant'Andrea, Palaia - Pisa in Toscana
Ricordata in un documento del 1201, sorgerebbe su un preesistente tempio pagano dedicato a Saturno, come lascerebbe intendere l’atipica pianta ad unica grande navata, priva di abside, di coro e di presbiterio, con cappelle e fonte battesimale di epoca posteriore. La facciata, in cotto, è movimentata da archetti ed il portale è sormontato da un arco a tutto sesto; a lato si erge la mole del campanile.
Nell’interno si segnalano alcune statue in terracotta invetriata, parte di un dossale d’altare di scuola robbiana, una Madonna dipinta e non invetriata opera di Andrea della Robbia, un Crocifisso ligneo dipinto del secolo XIV attribuito alla scuola pisana ed una scultura lignea raffigurante la “Madonna con Bambino” di Francesco di Valdambrino, risalente al 1403.
