Castrum di Capannoli, Pontedera - Pisa in Toscana
Il castello di Capannoli, dopo un lungo periodo di sudditanza al vescovo di Lucca, divenne libero Comune sotto l’egemonia della Repubblica Pisana. Subì le stesse sorti di molti altri castelli della Valdera, conquistata più volte da Pisa e Firenze fino al 1406, data che segnò la fine della Repubblica pisana e la sottomissione di molti borghi e castelli al dominio fiorentino.
Alla fine del Duecento si suppone che il castello di Capannoli fosse già in rovina ma documenti del 1420 parlano ancora della conservazione delle sue mura; è probabile quindi che nel XV secolo sia stato riedificato. Il Castello oggi è quasi del tutto cadente ed ha finito per essere convertito in parte ad abitazioni private, in parte è stato acquistato dal Comune e trasformato in edificio scolastico. Analoga sorte ha subito il massiccio edificio della torre di cui una parte è ancora residenza padronale, una parte è stata suddivisa in quartieri abitati da alcune famiglie.
