Castello e torre campanaria, Lajatico - Pisa in Toscana
La struttura muraria dell’antico castello fa pensare ad un insediamento medievale e si trova nella parte alta del paese. La facciata presenta un ingresso con arco a sesto acuto e lateralmente uno stemma in pietra raffigurante il simbolo della Croce Pisana. In alto a destra è posto il leone in pietra col giglio di Firenze. Sotto la porta d’ingresso si trova una bifora circondata da sei stemmi, di cui solo uno ancora visibile e raffigurante un’aquila, probabile stemma della famiglia Gotti Lega.
Nel piccolo atrio d’ingresso si osservano alcune scene in pietra che riguardano la battaglia tra Pisa e Firenze. A destra sorge la torre campanaria caratterizzata da una bifora e da una struttura quadrata in ferro che regge una campana. Il castello fu venduto ai Fiorentini da Pietro Gaetani nel 1405 e fu distrutto dalle stesse truppe fiorentine nel 1435 per sconfiggere la Repubblica marinara di Pisa.
