Porta San Francesco, Volterra - Pisa in Toscana
Chiamata anche Porta di Santo Stefano o Pisana perchè portava a Pisa passando per la Val d’Era, oggi la Posta San Francesco immette in via San Lino. La grande arcata è racchiusa entro le mura medievali. La parte interna presenta grandi imposte di legno, quella esterna è sormontata da merli. Nella volta sono ancora visibili tracce di affreschi che probabilmente erano presenti in tutte le porte di accesso alla città. La “canna”, unità di misura pisana presente anche sulle facciate di Palazzo dei Priori, è scolpita all’interno.
