Borgo di Lusignano, Pomarance - Pisa in Toscana
Anticamente denominata Lussignano, questo borgo ha mantenuto pressoché inalterata la configurazione urbanistica del castello a planimetria circolare. Alla fine del XII secolo il castello era situato più a nord dell’attuale borgo ed era controllato dal vescovo di Volterra.
Dopo la distruzione della fortificazione, avvenuta nel 1263 ad opera dei Pannocchieschi, gli abitanti di Lustignano chiesero aiuto al comune di Volterra per la ricostruzione del castello, che fu edificato dove oggi si trova la frazione. Della storica fortificazione oggi rimangono tracce della cinta muraria e le antiche case.
