Casa torre Hotel Victoria - Pisa in Toscana
La torre, situata sul retro dell’Hotel Vittoria, è visibile esclusivamente dall’interno del cortile dell’albergo nel quale si trova incorporata. L’edificio aveva pianta rettangolare e stanze che, ai piani più bassi, probabilmente erano dotate di ballatoi in legno che dovevano correre su tutte e quattro le facciate.
Questa casa-torre è uno degli esempi più antichi dell’edilizia medioevale civile pisana posteriore al Mille. Era collocata vicino al fiume e sul limite della cerchia muraria altomedioevale e si poneva a difesa, insieme ad altre case-torri, del lato meridionale della “Civitas”. La topografia della zona subì un radicale stravolgimento agli inizi di questo secolo a causa dei lavori di costruzione del grande Hotel Victoria, terminati nel 1916. Di tutti gli antichi edifici, che qui si trovavano fin dal Medioevo, sopravvisse la torre del secolo XI che, inglobata insieme al suo annesso in laterizio nella struttura dell’albergo, continua a sovrastare l’intero complesso.
