Casa torre Lanfreducci - Pisa in Toscana
La torre a pianta rettangolare è prevalentemente costruita in pietra verrucana squadrata, mentre la parte superiore in laterizio è frutto di un innalzamento e parziale rifacimento risalente al secolo XIV. La facciata meridionale, ad esclusione della sommità, è inglobata nel palazzo “Alla Giornata”. La parte più antica della torre è attribuibile alla seconda metà del secolo XII, ma l’intero edificio presenta notevoli tracce di interventi di ristrutturazione sia di epoca medievale che successiva. La casa-torre, insieme alle abitazioni circostanti, apparteneva nel Medioevo alla Cappella di San Biagio alle Catene, documentata fin dall’anno 1030, ed i suoi resti sono visibili all’interno del cortile del Palazzo del Rettorato.
La famiglia Lanfreducci, residente a Pisa fin dagli inizi del secolo XIII e appartenente alla Consorteria che controllava il Ponte Nuovo, volle creare nella prima metà del Quattrocento una residenza signorile accorpando edifici preesistenti di epoche diverse. Questa fase anticipò la definitiva ristrutturazione dell’immobile avvenuta nel 1594 per volontà di Francesco Lanfreducci che incaricò l’architetto Cosimo Pugliani di realizzare la facciata del palazzo. Sotto il portale del palazzo ancora oggi si legge il motto dei Lanfreducci “Alla Giornata”.
