Chiesa di San Francesco - Pisa in Toscana
Secondo un antico racconto la chiesa sarebbe sorta in conseguenza della predicazione di San Francesco avvenuta a Pisa intorno all’anno 1211; furono infatti due seguaci pisani del Santo, Agnello e Alberto, a edificare un primo edificio francescano. Le linee generali di questa architettura seguirono lo stile costruttivo dei Francescani: linee semplici, materiale povero, ma grandi dimensioni (18 metri per 70).
Degno di nota è il campanile pensile, non poggiante sulla terra ma sui due lati della navata e sorretto da grandi pietre inserite a mensola. Parti dell’edificio divennero Museo civico nel 1899 e sono oggi sede scolastica, mentre il chiostro interno è di uso dei parrocchiani. La Chiesa contiene opere pittoriche del Seicento e parti di vetrate originali.
