Furniture - Pisa in Tuscany
The making of furniture and fittings has assumed special features that are highly appreciated all over the world. Wood, a noble and precious material, is worked by small crafts firms – mostly concentrated in the communes of Cascina, Ponsacco, Lari, Bientina and Vicopisano – which have perpetuated the tradition of the local workshops in the arts of carving and inlaying.
A tradition which has always aimed at producing functional and up-to-date forms characterized by superior quality and design appreciated both in Italy and abroad. The high quality of the wood, combined with particular manual working techniques, results in furniture characterized by a high aesthetic value. Cascina and Ponsacco each boast a Permanent Furniture Exhibition. Cascina’s old craft tradition is also confirmed by the State Institute of Art (established 1871) and the Museum of Wood Arts and Crafts.
