Battistero - Pisa in Tuscany
Diotisalvi, the architect of the church of Santo Sepolcro, began the construction work of the Baptistery in 1153. According to an inscription to be found between two pillars inside the Baptistery, the monument was rebuilt in 1278. We do not have any exact information about the progress of the work of the Baptistery and the building technique. The order of small arches surrounding the Baptistery is adorned with heads and sculptures attributed to Nicola and Giovanni Pisano. In the centre of the monument there is a very beautiful christening font; near the altar stands the pulpit, attributed to Nicola Pisano and dated 1260.
