Pieve di San Marco a Rigoli - Pisa in Tuscany
The first certain documentations date back to the 11th century. The building has a basilican plan with pillars and three apses and is characterised by the architectonic elements of the 11th century, in particular in the apsidal section where the blind arcades rest on shelves.
The interior and the façade are later, probably datable to the 12th century. A testimony of the early-medieval building is to be found in the Lombard christening font, datable to the 8th-9th century. The church keeps a wooden panel depicting the “Virgin on the throne and angels” (14th-15th century) by Turino Vanni, a Pisan painter.
