Villa Arganini - Pisa in Tuscany
The neoclassical building was designed by the architect P. Bernardini di Pescia. It incorporates the chapel and the crypt with circular plan, where there are eight interesting columns of stone with basements and capitals in Benedictine style of the 11th century.
The crypt includes also contemporary architectonic fragments coming from the Abbazia di S. Stefano in Cintoia (now destroyed), of which there were reliable remains in the mid-19th century, as Polloni revealed. The interior, above the altar of the chapel, houses a precious marble statue: the “Resurrezione di Cristo” (Christ’s Resurrection), by the sculptor Giovanni Duprè (1867). The sculpture is to be found in a small temple inside the villa, which was built by order of its owner, Francesco Filippi, upon the ruins of the ancient Badia di Cintoia.
