Museum of Sacred Art della Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta - Pisa in Tuscany
The museum houses a collection of the church treasures made up of about twenty sacred vestments and a hundred lithurgical fittings, mostly from the XVII and XVIII centuries, in the ancient parsonnage. The sanctuary, where the corpse of Saint Valentine Martyr has been preserved since 1701, is famous for the opulence of its treasure which testifies to the economic prosperity of the Bientina community.
Among the lithurgical objects, mention must be made to those coming from the famous Vambré workshop in Lucca: a holy-water font ascribed to the shop’s founder, Giovanni il Vecchio, a silversmith of flemish origin who came to Lucca during the second half of the sixhundreds; various reliquaries, candle holders and chalices. Among the lithurgical vestments there is a valuable hanging of florentine make dating back to the second half of the fivehundreds.
