Torre dell'Orologio e il Palazzo del Podestà, Bientina - Pisa in Tuscany

A medieval tower dating from the 12th century, it was part of the second of the four rings of walls that encircled the fortress of Santa Maria a Monte. The name Torre dell'Orologio (Italian for clock tower) is derived from a bell that struck the hours in a no longer extant sail-shaped structure on the roof. The only part left of the old mechanism is the counterpoise, which descends into a slot in the thickness of the wall.
