Chiesa di San Giovanni Evangelista - Pisa in Tuscany
It was consecrated in 1466. The façade is characterised by a rich Serena stone portal. The single-nave interior keeps 15th-century works, among which the christening font, a wooden Crucifix and two side altars.
The rectangular pulpit, supported by two lions on the basement of the columns, dates back to the first half of the 13th century. The ambo belongs to the activity of a group of Lombard sculptors known as Guidi. Noteworthy is a polychromatic wooden sculpture representing the “Virgin and Child” (1255). The 19th-century frescoes representing “Scenes of Christ’s life” by Luigi Ademollo were lost during the Second World War, except for those kept in the presbyterate and in the chapel of the Holy Sacrament.
