Chiesa di Sant'Andrea - Pisa in Tuscany
Attested in a document of 1201, it stands on a pre-existing pagan temple dedicated to Saturn, as attested by the atypical plan with a single nave without apse, choir and presbyterate, with later chapels and christening font. The fired brick façade is characterised by small arches and the portal is surmounted by a round arch; the imposing bell tower stands on one side.
The interior houses statues in glazed terracotta, a fragment of an altar-frontal attributed to the school of Della Robbia (the Madonna, painted and not glazed, is by Andrea della Robbia), a painted wooden Crucifix of the 14th century attributed to the Pisan School and a wooden sculpture representing the “The Virgin and Child” by Francesco di Valdambrino (1403).
