Museum of Work and Rural Life - Pisa in Tuscany
This museum exhibit is housed in a florentine style farmhouse where farmers lived until the end of the 19th century. The house was built in the XVIII century during the times of the grand duke Pietro Leopoldo when the Alamanni family were the owners of the San Gervasio farm. Inside the building there are perfect replicas of the barn, workshops (cobbler, blacksmith and carpenter workshops), the kitchen, bedrooms, the cellar and a room with an old and rare loom.
Ploughs have been placed in the farmhouse yard: from the first wooden ones to those used just before tractors began to be in use. The yard also contains a wood oven, still used to show how bread was made, and a stone mill where corn meal was ground. The museum has also a display of some of its items in the old cellar, dug out of tufo rock. This year, in collaboration with the Accademia dei Georgofili in Florence, the museum is exhibiting a series of documentary and photographic shows regarding country traditions and peasant culture as it once was.
