Chiesa del Conservatorio di Santa Marta - Pisa in Tuscany
The present-day building was erected on a pre-existing monastery built between 1592 and 1598 by order of a rich merchant of Monopoli, Simone di Sebastiano Gamuccini. The church was erected on request of Gamuccini’s wife who, according to her last wishes, wanted the painter Ludovico Cardi, better known as Il Cigoli, to paint “The resurrection of Lazarus” for the high altar.
The interior houses also a painting depicting the “Virgin with the souls of Purgatory” , attributed to Santi di Tito, a “Virgin and Child with saints” by Michele Laschi, and a 14th-century wooden panel representing the “Virgin and Child”.
