Santuario della Madonna di San Romano - Pisa in Tuscany
Its origins date back to the church of Santa Maria a Valiana, where there was an image of the Virgin, carved in an oak trunk, which is an object of veneration since the beginning of the 16th century. In 1515 the church was enlarged in order to adapt it to the new cult. It presents a nave flanked by chapels; the apse and the roof, destroyed by the war, are modern.
The chapel of the Virgin keeps the 19th-century structure attributed to Pasquale Poccianti. It has a neoclassical structure with white stucco decorations by Emilio Santarelli. In the middle there is a small temple by Amalia Duprè with the holy image of the “Virgin of San Romano”.
