Chiesa Abbazia di San Bartolomeo - Pisa in Tuscany
It dates back to the end of the 14th century, but its present-day appearance reflects the transformations of the mid-19th century that completely cancelled the medieval structures. The rigid geometric division of the façade reflects the inner division into two side aisles and a nave.
The magnificent interior is divided by high columns that separate the two side aisles and the nave and support the vault roofing enclosed by the central dome. In the transept are two big chapels that house stone altars of 1860. Above the high altar is a beautiful wooden Crucifix of the 17th century; on the right, ”St. Bartholomew’s martyrdom” by Giovan Stefano Marucelli (17th century) and on the left the “The Eucharist” (end of the17th– beginning of the 18th century).
