Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo - Pisa in Tuscany
It dates back to the end of the 14th century, but the present-day appearance is the result of the mid-19th-century alterations that completely cancelled the medieval structures. The rigid geometric division of the façade, stressed by the mouldings, reflects the inner division into two side aisles and a nave.
The imposing interior is divided by high columns that separate the two side aisles and the nave and support the vault ceiling enclosed within the central dome. In the transept are two big chapels that house sober stone altars of 1860. Above the high altar is a beautiful wooden Crucifix of the 17th century; on the right, “St. Bartholomew’s martyrdom” by Giovan Stefano Marucelli (17th century) and on the left “The Eucharist” (end of the17th– beginning of the 18th century).
