Villa Comunale Pucci, Baciocchi - Pisa in Tuscany
It is also known as “Il Castello” (Italian for “The Castle”) since it stands on the remains of a castle of the Counts Della Gherardesca (mentioned for the first time in 843 BC). It was probably restored according to Buontalenti’s design. The style is Late Baroque (18th century) with neoclassical elements.
The villa was the property of Gambacorti, Pucci and Baciocchi. The present-day building has a rectangular plan, with two pre-existing towers. In the rooms on the ground storey, which houses the Zoological Museum, are several ornamental frescoes, while the second storey (archaeological section) houses the finds brought to light during the excavations. Even the park rich in exotic and age-old trees is noteworthy.
