Chiesa dei SS Andrea e Lucia - Pisa in Tuscany
It was founded in the Middle Ages and since the 14th century it was under the patronage of the Compagni (or da Compagno) who built the near fortress, too. Completely rebuilt by order of the curate Valerio Petrelli, it was consecrated in 1726. The simple brickwork exterior with portals, windows and Serena stone coats of arms contrasts with a very rich interior, with polychromatic marble altar, stuccos and 18th-century canvas by Ranieri del Pace, Giovan Domenico Pucci and Giuseppe Tais. The 14th-century polyptych representing the “Virgin and Child” was executed by Barnaba from Modena. The church stands near a 14th-century fortress (whose remains are kept) which belonged to the defensive system of the Pisan Republic.
