Chiesa di San Benedetto a Settimo - Pisa in Tuscany
Documented since 861, the church was rebuilt in 1540 in the present-day place and handed over to the Servites. The exteriors and interiors underwent several alterations in the 19th century. The interior keeps 14th-century wooden panels on a golden background: the “Virgin of the cherries” by Francesco Neri from Volterra and the “Virgin of the Piano” by a Florentine artist; a wooden panel with “St. Peter and St. Filippo Benizzi” by Pier Francesco Foschi (16th century) and frescoes by Sollazzino (16th century). In the same period the church purchased 14th-century fragments of a polychromatic golden frontal of alabaster, coming from England, with “Saints”, the “Assumption” and “Christological scenes”.
