Villa Medici, Cybo, Corsini, Lajatico - Pisa in Tuscany
The ancient complex of Spedaletto stands on the top of quiet hills between the rivers Ragone and Era. It was built by the hospital friars of Altopascio in the year 1000 and later it was used as a hospital for pilgrims and wanderers. In the second half of the 15th century the Medicean supremacy reached Volterra and Spedaletto became the hunting residence of Lorenzo the Magnificent, who tried to embellish his country house by calling famous artists (Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, Perugino, Lippi).
These artists frescoed the large entrance that leads to the courtyard; unfortunately, the frescoes were destroyed by the fire of the 17th century. Lorenzo gave the whole complex of buildings and the estate to her daughter Maddalena as a dowry, who would marry Francesco Cybo Malaspina. In 1607 Alberigo Malaspina sold the whole complex to the nobles Corsini of Florence, who are the owners still today.
