Case Torri Toscano, Volterra - Pisa in Tuscany
A group of towers at the intersection of the Via Matteotti and the Piazzetta San Michele. As is attested to by an inscription sculpted above the entrance door, they were built in 1250 on the initiative of Giovanni Toscano, the treasurer of King Renzo of Sardinia, who commissioned Giroldo da Lugano to erect a sumptuous mansion around a tower located in the Sant'Agnolo district.
The building went to the Rapucci family and then to the Cafferecci and the Guarnacci, who added to the tower house the 17th-century palace that winds along the former Via degli Asinari.
