Chiesa dei SS Giusto e Clemente (San Giusto Nuovo) - Pisa in Tuscany
Its construction began in 1627 to replace the church engulfed by the landslip at Le Balze. The unworked stone façade is flanked by four columns that support the terracotta statues of St. Giusto, St. Clemente, St. Lino and St. Octavius. The interior with a single nave is Baroque. In the transept is the painting “Our Mother of the Thanksgiving” of 1448 coming from the ancient church destroyed.
The high altar keeps the urn with the relics of Saints Giusto and Clemente. Before the entrance to the oratory there is the so-called Gnomone, an interesting sundial designed by Giovanni Inghirami from Volterra in 1801: each day of the year at midday, a ray of sunlight shines through a gnomonic hole and falls on the marble meridian line marked out on the floor of the church.
