Chiesa di San Girolamo, Volterra - Pisa in Tuscany
A former convent, the church is situated outside Volterra, along the Road SS to Siena. The church and the Franciscan convent were built in 1445 by Michelozzo. The church presents a portico with six round arches and two chapels with terracotta statues by Giovanni Della Robbia.
The interior, which mostly keeps its original structure, is provided with a single nave and does not house any striking works: on the two sides of the high altar are two 15th-century paintings, while the two glazed terracotta statues of Saints Girolamo and Francis are attributed to Giovanni Gonmelli, known as “the Blind man from Gambassi”.
