Chiesa di San Biagio, Montecatini Val di Cecina - Pisa in Tuscany
It was built in the mid-14th century; on one side are two elegant windows and a 16th-century ashlar portal. The parsonage dates back to the 16th century: its construction deprived the church of its original façade. The interior has two side aisles and a nave with beamed ceiling and monolithic columns surmounted by capitals with the motif of the aquatic leaves.
On the walls of the choir are “St. Biagio”, “St. Sebastian”, a “Last Supper” attributed to Cristoforo Roncalli and a wooden panel by Neri di Bicci representing “St. Sebastian’s martyrdom and the Saints Biagio and Anthony the Abbot”. On the two sides of the choir are two marble angels holding candles, known as “I cechini”. The “Madonna of Caporciano”( also known as “the cave Madonna”) is a painted stone statue found in a mine at the beginning of the 17th century. According to a small wooden panel, bearing the monogram IHS, this statue was given to the Church of San Bernardino.
