Chiesa dei Santi Simone e Giuda - Pisa in Tuscany
The present-day parish church was built in 1848 in the place of the old church situated inside the castle. The bell tower houses three bells: the smaller and the middle ones were melted in 1330 by a master of Airoldo, while the big bell was melted in 1869 and then re-melted in 1936 because it broke.
On the façade a plaque coming from the old church informs us that “Master Ubertino from Como built me; Cello di Jacopo, Chele di Riccomanno, Manuello Tancredi and Martino, the constructors of this church, the 13th of December 1285”. The interior houses a holy water stoup made out of a Corinthian capital. On the left of the altar is the painting depicting “Our Mother of the Thanksgiving”, (or “of the Good Advice”) coming from the ancient church. Behind the altar is the canvas with the “Virgin and Child between Saints Rocco and Barbara”, by a 16th-century Tuscan artist.
