Chiesa di San Bartolomeo, Pomarance - Pisa in Tuscany
Attested for the first time in 1135, it underwent several alterations and it was restored in the 18th century, in 1841 and 1993. It is a Romanesque building with ridge roof without apse; the vaults of the beamed ceiling were probably built in the 18th century. The small window on the right side of the presbyterate is a slit like the ones (today plastered) situated along the right wall, which attest the function of the church as a bastion of the defensive system of the village.
On the left, behind the altar, is the wooden panel depicting “Our Mother of the Thanksgiving”. The tempera painting representing “The pomegranate Madonna and Child” was commissioned in 1360 by Coluccio Frescolini from Montegemoli to Francesco Neri Guntarini from Volterra.
