Chiesa di San Donato, Pomarance - Pisa in Tuscany
Embodied into the “piviere” of Morba, Serrazzano had two churches, San Michele inside the castle and San Donato outside the castle. The first church was attested for the first time in 1102 in a donation to the Badia of Monteverdi and had this name also in the pastoral visit of 1413.
The second church, today known as church of Sant’Antonio, originally had the name of San Donato. Built outside the walls of the castle, it served as a parish church, being provided with the christening font and having the authority to administer the other Sacraments. In 1413 the name was probably transferred from this church to the one inside the walls, which changed its name from San Michele to San Donato, a name it keeps still today. The church presents a gothic structure with four cross vaults of the 14th century and keeps a Volterran mixed-alabaster ciborium of the 16th century.
