Modified throughout the centuries, its present-day appearance dates back to the 19th century when, owing to the birth of chemical industry and the consequent population increase, the archaic church was no more sufficient. Also the bell tower is datable to the 19th century. A large chapel for the services of the “Compagnia del Santissimo Sacramento e dell’Addolorata” was opened.

A niche above the altar, which takes its name from the saint, keeps the terracotta bust of San Potente, a reproduction of another 17th-century bust. San Potente is the protector of Lustignano, which fervidly venerated the saint. The sacristy keeps a wooden statue of the Virgin, besides an ancient wooden bust of St. Martin, recently attributed to a Sienese sculptor of the end of the 14th century, and works by Francesco Di Domenico Valdambrino.
