Chiesa del SS Salvatore - Pisa in Tuscany
Built in the Middle Ages, it was a rectorship under the authority of the parish church of Morba. It was restored in the 18th century; the façade, provided with salients, is preceded by a large staircase. The interior presents two side aisles and a nave and is the result of the restoration work of 1744 and 1760, with the rebuilding of the apse and the high altar.
A valuable wooden “Crucifix” of the early 14th century is kept in the church. The dedication of the church to the Holy Saviour is rare in this area: the churches with this denomination usually refer to archaic Christian buildings or stations for pilgrims making for Rome. At the end of the right aisle is the imposing organ which was situated in the counter-façade some years ago; its origins date back to the 17th century, but it was restored. It is one of the most interesting examples of the Tuscan organ building of the 19th century.
