Pieve dei SS Filippo e Giacomo - Pisa in Tuscany
It was erected by the bishop Ildebrando in 1186. The salient-façade has a masonry face of square ashlars and three big arcades in the middle: the outer arcades are blind, while the inner one frames the door.
The central part is surmounted by a very simple eye, while the interior consists of two side aisles and a nave divided by pillars with capitals representing figures; on the side of the right aisle is a pointed arch window whose architrave depicts a hunting scene; the square-basement bell tower stands on the right side of the church. Recent restoration work has brought to light some Romanesque elements. In the neighbourhood is the “Buca delle Fate”, a small, but well-kept Etruscan hypogeum datable to the 6th century B.C.
