Pieve di San Bartolomeo - Pisa in Tuscany
The church of the castle of Leccia, which kept its medieval structure, was mentioned in 1275 as a rectorship of the parish church of Morba. At the beginning of the 15th century it kept the christening font. It underwent several alterations that changed its original appearance.
The interior keeps the canvas representing the “Virgin of the Book”, the centre of the Marian veneration in the territory, attributed to Matteo de’ Gondi and transported here in 1958 from the sanctuary situated not far from the village. On the bell gable is a bell bearing the year 1333 and a “Virgin breast-feeding the Child”, probably coming from an oratory dedicated to the Madonna of the Milk; this oratory, today disappeared, stood near the village, along the river Cornia nearby a fountain, known as “the Milk Fountain”, still existing.
