Chiesa di San Bartolomeo, Santa Luce - Pisa in Tuscany
Like many other religious buildings of this area, this church underwent several alterations throughout the centuries. A plaque on the façade attests that it was rebuilt in 1839 on request of the grand duke Leopold II and of the inhabitants of the village. The church was founded in the Middle Ages and in the late 14th century it was under the authority of the parish church of Sant’Angelo in Santa Luce; in 1576 it was rebuilt.
After being gravely damaged during the war of 1944, it was restored again and reopened to the cult. The simple interior displays a single nave with transept; above the right altar is an interesting canvas of the early 17th century, which is now in a bad state due to the loss of colour, representing the “Virgin with St. Sebastian, St. Lucy and Saint Rocco”.
