Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta e Sant'Angelo - Pisa in Tuscany
The origins of this parish church are uncertain. The first documentation probably dates back to the year 770 when it was under the authority of the parish church of Gello Mattaccino in Lucca; in 802 it was attested as a parish church belonging to the Pisan diocese.
The present-day building with a single nave is the result of the nearly total reconstruction which took place after the earthquake of 1846. The parish church had two naves, each one with its own entrance, of which only the bigger one had an apse that survived, like the basement of the bell tower; these original parts are datable to the 12th century. Along the path leading to the church there are the capitals and other medieval sculptures and the octagonal christening font. The interior keeps a terracotta statue by Della Robbia.
