Villa Corsini Valdisonzi - Pisa in Tuscany
The Villa Valdisonsi, built in the 16th century by the Berzighelli family, was enlarged at the end of the 18th century by Domenico Scotto and then further embellished. In the 19th century it was provided with a beautiful romantic park of over 7 hectares by order of Luisa Scotto, the Princess Corsini. At the end of the century it was enlarged again by Alessandro Gherardesca and Pietro Bellini. Unlike the other villas of Crespina, this one is isolated and hidden, except for the bell tower of the oratory. The villa has two different façades with an original L-shaped plan: the main ancient façade looks onto the hills, the side modern one looks onto the garden. The first façade consists of three levels, a double-flight staircase and a sundial, while the second neoclassical façade consists of two levels.
The interior of the villa is well-kept and offers 17th/18th-century rooms with period furniture, besides the Grand Duke’s Room. In the park are buildings in eclectic style, such as the chapel, the lemon-house and the farm. In the garden are an Egyptian-style obelisk, columns, artificial ruins and a greenhouse with “trompe l’oleil” frescoes. In 1842 Professor Matteucci conducted in this villa the first experiments with the telegraph in Tuscany.
