Villa Il Poggio - Pisa in Tuscany
Formerly known as “Villa della Longa” (with the family’s coat of arms on the façade), then Villa Lanfranchi, Del Guerra, Leoni and Manetti. The villa was built at the end of the 16th century by the Lanfranchi family;during the 18th and 19th centuries, it underwent several extension and restoration work, especially on the façades. Formerly a shooting lodge, it was transformed into a sumptuous villa and then into a big farm.
The side entrance of the villa is characterised by a spectacular double flight of brickwork steps that leads to the decorative access gate. The stout structure, which, along with the near chapel, was designed by Michelangelo according to tradition, stands on a panoramic hill. The front façade consists of three levels, while the rear one of two levels and shows a double stone staircase. On the first storey is a room (known as “Michelangelo’s Room”).
