Oratorio della Madonna della Neve, Lari - Pisa in Tuscany
It was built in 1634 at the gates of the village, in the place of an older religious building. Together with the Oratorio del Carmine, it stands out as a significant example of minor Baroque architecture of classical style. It is preceded by a monumental portico supported by pillars and columns.
The interior with a single nave seems to be bare, except for the beautiful marble altar dedicated to the Holy Spirit, executed by one of the most qualified Pisan sculptors of the 18th century, Giovanni Battista Vaccà; above this altar is a “torn” fresco with the “Virgin and Child” and at the entrance is a holy water stoup dated 1757. The oratory served as a small sanctuary since it was the destination of Marian pilgrimages until the beginning of the 20th century.
